Safari Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival Nairobi

 

Met on arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by our Representative and transfer to the newly refurbished Nairobi Serena Hotel.  You have been booked on a bed and breakfast basis for the night.

The flagship of Serena Hotels is newly refurbished with renovated guest rooms, new facilities including an Executive Lounge, banqueting and meeting rooms and a new Asian fusion restaurant that is an addition to the elegant Mandhari restaurant for fine dining and the Café Maghreb, the all-day restaurant. Other facilities include the Maisha (which means 'life' in Swahili) Health Club and Spa, and Aksum, the Ethiopian themed bar. The hotel is well known for preserving the rich Pan-African inspired culture expressed through its interiors and unique décor accents.

Day 2 – Drive to Soysambu Conservancy, Lake Elmenteita

 

Breakfast in the hotel and check-out.  Meet up with your dedicated Safari Driver Guide at the Hotel Lobby. After introductions and pre-safari briefing, depart and drive down the eastern wall of the Great Rift Valley, your driver guide will stop at strategic viewpoints for photography where you will come out and view the escarpment and take photos. Drive on to Lake Elmenteita Serena Camp in the Soysambu Wildlife Conservancy to arrive in the early afternoon for check-in and lunch.

Uniquely situated on the shoreline of sapphire-blue Lake Elmenteita where hundreds of thousands of birds congregate, is the small and exclusive Camp.  This area of breathtaking beauty is also home to many rare species of animals.  Afternoon at leisure to relax and enjoy a swim in the camp’s affinity pool overlooking the lake!   Other optional activities available in the camp include: - Water Colour painting, Recurve Target Archery activities, Jogging/Walking, Horse riding, Sundowners, swimming among others.

16:00hrs enjoy game viewing drives in the conservancy.   The Conservancy protects over 450 bird species and 15,000 wild animals.  Rothschild giraffes have found a safe haven for breeding here, while a diverse variety of terrain shelters many species - from herds of giant elands to tiny dik-diks and cliff-dwelling klipspringers.

Day 3 – Lake Elmenteita to Masai Mara

 

Breakfast in the Camp and drive Masai Mara Game Reserve to arrive at your lodge, Mara Serena Safari Lodge for in the early afternoon for check-in.

Perched on the saddle of a hill, the Lodge has one of the most spectacular views imaginable across the vast plains, forests and rivers that make up the Masai Mara – one of the world’s richest wildlife sanctuaries.

 

Lunch in the lodge followed by an afternoon at leisure to relax and enjoy the lodge facilities that include: -     Maisha Health Club and Spa featuring an exciting spa menu, steam, sauna and gymnasium to experience tranquility and good health whilst on safari, a swimming pool and a terrace that gives you sweeping views of the of the expansive Masai Mara plains.

 

16:00hrs Depart for an afternoon game drive in the reserve.  The Mara is also noted for its abundance of lions - particularly the superb black manned males. You'll see lots of elephants here often in large herds, as well as - if you're lucky - leopard, cheetah and rhino.   All of the Big Five are residents. You're sure to see the African buffalo. Get the cameras ready, charge the batteries and enjoy yourself!

 

18:00hrs Return to the lodge to refresh for dinner.

Day 4 – Masai Mara Game Reserve

 

Full day in the Mara with morning and afternoon game viewing drives daily in the Reserve. Certainly the most frequented game reserve in Kenya, Masai Mara is a magnificent landscape of open plains bisected by the Mara River and its tributaries, and punctuated by marshes and forests.   This 650 sq kilometer reserve supports the highest density of game to be seen anywhere considering its size.  

 

Hippo Pool Breakfast

This morning, crown your game viewing experience with a “Bush Breakfast” by the Mara River Hippo Pools! One cannot resist the charming “Jambo” from the chefs and Masai warriors as they welcome you to our wonderfully set breakfast buffet of cold cuts, fruits, cereals and hot dishes with eggs made to your specifications as you wait. The hippos keep you company and only say “Kwaheri” (good bye) after you have had enough.

 Day 5 – Masai Mara to Serengeti National Park

 

Early breakfast in the lodge and drive to the Kenya/Tanzania border town of Isebania/Sirare for Immigration and Customs clearance.  After the cross-border formalities, meet with your Tanzania driver guides for vehicle exchange and onward drive to the world-famous Serengeti National Park to arrive at your camp, Kirawira Serena Camp for check-in and lunch.

16:00hrs depart for an afternoon game viewing drive before returning to the camp in time early evening.

Day 6 – Serengeti National Park

 

Full day in Serengeti National Park with morning and afternoon game viewing drive in the park, apart from the Selous, this is the largest of all the Parks in Tanzania, summed up as 'one of the most unique areas in

the world'. The Serengeti contains the largest remaining concentration of plains game in Africa, on a scale which has no parallel anywhere in the world.  Even during the height of the migration towards the Masai Mara, there is a huge concentration of plains game in the Reserve, mainly concentrated around the watering places, and with good chances also of seeing the predators at work.

Day 7 – Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation

 

After breakfast in the lodge, drive to Ngorongoro with a brief stop at the Olduvai Gorge. Olduvai Gorge the 'Crater of Mankind' is world famous for the Archaeological discoveries made there by Dr. Louis Leakey and Mary Leakey.  Drive on to the altitude of 8,000 feet as you ascend to the exterior of the crater reaching its rim and here your first glimpse of what has often been referred to as the “Eighth wonder of the World.” 

 

Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge

The Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is built onto the rim of this amazing natural phenomenon, a stunning plant and local creeper covered stone lodge where guests co-exist in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural environment and wildlife.

Day 8 – Ngorongoro Conservation Area/Crater tour

 

After breakfast descend to the floor of the crater for game viewing drives.  Often described as the ‘Eighth’ wonder of the World, the Ngorongoro crater is so spectacular, a natural sanctuary for over 25,000 animals, including the black rhino. It is also a conservation area inhabited by the Masai tribe. Picnic lunch will be served at one of the designated picnic sites on the crater floor.  As the sun sets on the western side of the crater rim, ascend and drive to the Lodge to arrive in time to refresh for dinner.

Day 9 – Ngorongoro to Arusha & Departure

 

Breakfast in the lodge and drive to Arusha town to arrive in the early afternoon for lunch at Arusha Serena Hotel.  Later transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your homebound flight.
